Amid the ongoing war in Ukraine and severe winter conditions, U.S. President Donald Trump has made a significant humanitarian appeal. Trump stated that he personally requested Russian President Vladimir Putin to suspend attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for at least one week, allowing civilians to cope with the harsh winter.
During a cabinet meeting at the White House on Thursday, President Trump said he reached out to Putin directly and claimed that the Russian leader agreed to the temporary pause. However, there has been no official confirmation from Russia regarding this alleged ceasefire.
Attacks Targeting Power and Infrastructure
Trump’s statement comes as Russia continues to target Ukraine’s power plants and critical infrastructure, creating widespread electricity shortages and intensifying the hardships faced by citizens during the winter months.
Drone Attack Kills Three
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported that a Russian drone attack in the southern Zaporizhzhia region during the night killed three people. The assault heavily damaged an apartment building, which subsequently caught fire, causing panic in the area.
Zelensky Warns of a Larger Russian Offensive
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia is preparing for another large-scale military attack. According to Ukrainian intelligence reports, Russia is mobilizing weapons and resources for a massive aerial strike. Zelensky also recalled that Russia recently launched around 800 drones, cruise, and ballistic missiles on Ukraine, targeting the country’s power grid in particular.
