Babar Azam Creates History in T20Is, Breaks Virat Kohli’s All-Time Record

Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has etched his name into the history books by setting a new milestone in T20 International cricket. During the third T20I against Australia, Babar scored a crucial half-century, breaking a long-standing record previously held by Indian legend Virat Kohli.

With this achievement, Babar Azam has become the highest half-century scorer in men’s T20 International cricket.

Historic Fifty Against Australia

The landmark knock came at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where Babar Azam played a composed and unbeaten 50-run innings. He reached his half-century in just 36 balls, striking three fours and one six along the way.

This was Babar’s 39th T20I fifty, helping him surpass Virat Kohli’s tally of 38 half-centuries. Kohli had held the record for a long time before retiring from T20 Internationals after India’s World Cup triumph last year.

  • Babar Azam – 39

  • Virat Kohli – 38

Also the Leading Run-Scorer in T20Is

Beyond half-centuries, Babar Azam is also the leading run-scorer in men’s T20 International cricket. He has amassed over 4,500 runs in 139 innings, maintaining an impressive average close to 40, a remarkable feat in T20 cricket. He also has three T20I centuries to his name.

Key Role in Pakistan’s Record Score

Babar’s innings laid the foundation for Pakistan’s massive total against Australia. The team posted 207 runs in 20 overs, marking Pakistan’s highest-ever T20I score against Australia.
