BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla Clarifies Stand on India–Pakistan Bilateral Cricket Series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice President Rajiv Shukla has made it clear that a bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan is unlikely in the near future. His statement comes amid ongoing discussions and speculation about the resumption of cricket ties between the two countries.
BCCI’s Position on Bilateral Series
Rajiv Shukla stated that the BCCI follows the policy and directives of the Government of India when it comes to international cricket engagements. As per the current situation, hosting or participating in a bilateral series with Pakistan is not feasible without government approval. He emphasized that the cricket board cannot take an independent decision on such matters.
India vs Pakistan Limited to ICC Events
The BCCI Vice President further explained that India and Pakistan currently face each other only in ICC or multi-nation tournaments. Bilateral tours are a separate matter and depend entirely on diplomatic relations and security considerations. Until the government grants permission, no bilateral series can be scheduled.
History of India–Pakistan Bilateral Cricket
India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series during the 2012–13 season, when the Pakistan team toured India. Since then, due to political tensions and security concerns, bilateral cricket ties between the two nations have remained suspended.
Government’s Role Is Crucial
Rajiv Shukla reiterated that the BCCI respects the country’s foreign policy and national security priorities. Decisions regarding cricket ties with Pakistan are aligned with the government’s stance, making official clearance a mandatory requirement.
The statement from the BCCI Vice President makes it clear that, for now, India and Pakistan will continue to compete only in international tournaments organized by global cricket bodies. A bilateral series remains unlikely unless there is a significant change in government policy and diplomatic relations.
