Weather Update: IMD Issues Alert for Rain and Rising Cold in Several States
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for several parts of the country, warning of changing weather conditions in the coming days. After a brief relief from the cold, temperatures are expected to drop again, accompanied by rain, strong winds, and dense fog in some regions.
The change in weather is mainly due to the activation of a western disturbance, which is likely to impact northern and northwestern India.
Cold Conditions Likely to Return
According to IMD forecasts, temperatures may fall between January 31 and February 1. Cold conditions are expected to intensify during morning and evening hours. In many parts of northern India, chilly winds could lead to cold wave–like conditions.
Rain Alert in Rajasthan and Hill States
IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in parts of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Higher altitude areas may also witness snowfall. In some regions of Rajasthan, thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely, with wind speeds reaching up to 30–40 km per hour.
Delhi Weather Forecast
In the national capital Delhi, IMD has warned of increased cold due to cold winds. Cloudy skies and the possibility of light drizzle have also been indicated. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain around 18–19 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may drop to 7–8 degrees Celsius.
Fog Alert in Uttar Pradesh
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh may experience dense fog, especially during late night and early morning hours, reducing visibility. A drop in temperature is also expected in western and central parts of the state. The weather department has advised farmers and commuters to remain cautious.
Weather Impact in Other States
Parts of Bihar may also witness dense fog, although rainfall chances remain low. However, a slight dip in temperature is expected. In other parts of eastern India, dry weather is likely to continue, but with cooler conditions during night and morning hours.
Advisory and Safety Measures
IMD has advised elderly people, children, and those suffering from illnesses to take special precautions against the cold. Drivers are urged to be careful while travelling in foggy conditions and to use fog lights and maintain low speeds. Farmers are also advised to keep track of weather updates to protect their crops.
Weather conditions across several states are expected to change in the coming days, with increased cold, rain, and fog affecting daily life. Staying informed about official weather updates and following safety advisories will be essential to minimize disruptions.
