Delhi High Court Rejects Kuldeep Sengar’s Plea to Suspend Sentence
Former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has suffered a major legal setback as the Delhi High Court has rejected his plea seeking suspension of his 10-year sentence in the Unnao custodial death case. With this decision, Sengar will continue to remain in जेल as his punishment will not be paused at this stage.
Court Finds No Strong Grounds for Relief
Sengar argued before the court that he has been in prison for a long time and is facing health-related issues. He requested temporary relief from his sentence on humanitarian grounds. However, the High Court clearly stated that no convincing reason was presented that could justify suspending the sentence.
Appeal May Be Heard Soon
The court observed that Sengar’s appeal against the conviction can be taken up for hearing at an early date. However, this does not automatically entitle him to relief. Until the final decision on his appeal is delivered, he must continue to serve his sentence.
Background of the Unnao Custodial Death Case
The case dates back to 2018, when the father of the Unnao rape survivor died in police custody. The court had earlier found Kuldeep Sengar guilty in this case and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The verdict had drawn nationwide attention at the time.
Legal Battle Continues
The High Court’s refusal to suspend the sentence is being seen as a major setback for Sengar. He will now have to wait for further hearings on his appeal. For the time being, his legal challenges have become more serious following this decision.
