Shattila Ekadashi 2026: Date, Parana Time, Rituals and Significance

Shattila Ekadashi is a sacred Hindu fasting day dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is observed during the Krishna Paksha of the Magha month. The word “Shattila” refers to the use of sesame seeds (til), which hold great religious importance on this day. Devotees believe that observing this fast helps remove sins and brings peace and prosperity.

Shattila Ekadashi 2026 Date

In 2026, Shattila Ekadashi will be observed on 14 January. Since the Ekadashi Tithi is present on this day during the morning hours, it is considered the correct day for fasting.

Parana (Fast-Breaking) Time

The Ekadashi fast is completed by breaking it on Dwadashi.
The Parana for Shattila Ekadashi in 2026 should be done on 15 January between 7:15 AM and 9:21 AM. Observing Parana within this time is believed to give the full spiritual benefits of the fast.

Shattila Ekadashi Fasting Rituals

Devotees should wake up early and take a holy bath on Ekadashi day. After this, Lord Vishnu should be worshipped with flowers, incense, lamps, and tulsi leaves. Fasting should be observed with devotion and a calm mind. On the next day, after offering prayers again, the fast should be broken during the Parana time with simple and sattvic food.
