Political Stir in Mahoba: BJP MLA Blocks Water Resources Minister Swatantra Dev Singh’s Convoy
Political tension surfaced in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday when BJP MLA Brijbhushan Rajput stopped the convoy of State Water Resources Minister Swatantra Dev Singh. The incident occurred as the minister was returning after attending an official government program.
Road Damage and Water Crisis Trigger Protest
The MLA, along with his supporters and several village heads, blocked the minister’s convoy to highlight serious issues in his विधानसभा constituency. He alleged that under the Jal Jeevan Mission, roads were dug up for pipeline work but have not been repaired for a long time, causing major inconvenience to residents.
In addition to damaged roads, the MLA raised concerns over an ongoing drinking water shortage in several villages, claiming that government schemes exist only on paper while the ground reality remains grim.
Heated Exchange at the Spot
The situation became tense after the convoy was stopped, leading to a sharp exchange of words between the MLA, supporters, and officials. Local police and administrative authorities reached the spot promptly to control the situation and prevent escalation.
Meeting Held at the Collectorate
To defuse the situation, Minister Swatantra Dev Singh took the MLA to the Collectorate, where a meeting was held with district officials. Key issues such as road repair, water supply, and pending development work were discussed. The minister assured that necessary action would be taken and problems would be resolved within a stipulated timeframe.
Political Reactions Intensify
Videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media, triggering political reactions. Opposition parties targeted the state government, stating that if ruling party MLAs themselves are protesting against their own government, it reflects administrative failure.
The Mahoba incident once again highlights the seriousness of local infrastructure and water-related issues. When elected representatives are forced to protest publicly, it raises questions about the implementation of development projects. The focus now shifts to whether the government delivers on the assurances given on the ground.
